As an experienced digital marketing professional who has handled thousands of projects, I would like to share some general advice with business owners who are considering digital marketing services for their business.
The first question is: How do you choose the right digital marketing professional for your business, and which digital marketing service is actually suitable for you to achieve better results?
Here are some basic suggestions for business owners.
I understand that your primary goal is to grow your business. At the same time, everywhere you look, you will see people recommending different digital marketing services. In this situation, it is important to first understand how digital marketing can actually help your business and whether your business really needs digital marketing at this stage.
First, understand that digital marketing includes SEO Service, Google Ads Service, social media advertising, social media management, performance marketing, and many other services.
The most important step is choosing the right digital marketing channel for your business. If your digital marketing professional fails to identify the right platform or strategy, you could waste a significant amount of money without achieving the desired results.
1. Clearly Define Your Goals and Budget
The next step is to clearly communicate your business goals, expectations and budget to your digital marketer.
Your digital marketing professional should be technically strong, a good strategist and, most importantly, genuine and transparent.
2. Ask About Transparency and Control
Always ask how transparent their process is and who will have control of your accounts and assets.
As a business owner, you should have complete control over important assets such as your Google Ads account, website, social media accounts, Google Business Profile and other marketing platforms.
Don’t give complete control of your digital assets to someone else without understanding how everything is being managed.
3. Be Careful With Long-Term Commitments
For certain services such as Google Ads, social media advertising and social media management, consider starting with a short-term engagement where possible.
For example, you could begin with a one-month engagement, evaluate the work and results, and then decide whether you want to continue.
However, keep in mind that some services, particularly SEO, generally require more time to show meaningful results. So the expected timeframe should be discussed clearly before starting.
4. Understand What Results Are Realistically Possible
This is one of the most important points.
When discussing your business goals and expectations, ask your digital marketer:
“What is realistically achievable with this budget and strategy?”
Every conversion depends on many factors, including your product or service, pricing, competition, website, location, offer, customer demand, advertising budget and sales process.
Therefore, your digital marketer should understand these factors and give you realistic expectations, rather than simply promising guaranteed results.
Choose What Fits Your Business
Don’t be influenced only by impressive presentations, big promises or companies showcasing their previous work.
Choose a digital marketing company or freelancer who genuinely fits your business needs, understands your goals, works transparently and can explain why a particular strategy is suitable for you.
This is my general advice based on my experience working on thousands of digital marketing projects.
